Planning context
A long-term renewal opportunity, not an approved plan.
There is no structure plan for Dynon. What follows is the published planning context that surrounds the corridor today.
Plan Melbourne renewal pipeline
The Dynon corridor is identified in the central-city renewal pipeline, with no timeframe assigned.
Industrial retention (MICLUP 2020)
The Melbourne Industrial and Commercial Land Use Plan retains land around the Port of Melbourne at Dynon predominantly for industrial uses.
Arden precinct
The adjacent Arden precinct structure plan was gazetted 28 July 2022. Arden's figures apply to Arden, not to Dynon.
E-Gate
The neighbouring E-Gate rail land has long been flagged for renewal and sits directly beside the corridor.
Freight and port function
Dynon's rail freight terminals remain an operating part of the state freight network today.
Open space and creek corridor
The Moonee Ponds Creek corridor runs nearby and features in central-city open-space thinking.
How change could unfold
Indicative sequencing only. No timeframe has been assigned to the corridor.
- Stage 1
Today
Operating rail freight and port-related industry.
- Stage 2
Next door
Arden and E-Gate deliver the first wave of inner-city renewal.
- Stage 3
Strategic work
Any future planning work would be led by government.
- Stage 4
Long term
A possible renewal chapter for the corridor itself.
The official plan
The final planning document, if one is prepared, would be published by the Victorian Planning Authority at gazettal. Follow progress on the official page.
